this maybe the second entry bout this things... (well, before i've once post bout Yukan Club and Hana Kimi)
why Japan producers love to make manga into screen, many of them is dorama?
i think the reason might be:
1. the manga story is interesting
2. promote the manga itself
3. ratting
4. less creative in story line a.k.a drought idea :p
in some case, the first reason goes well, such as in
Hana Kimi. but the rest, somehow its... *thumbs down*
Hana Kimi is good in packaging. the director and crew did it so well. the cast.. sorry to say, but Shun and Maki didn't spark in my eyes. its all about Nakatsu a.k.a Toma and Nanba senpai ^^ (okay, im bias here :D). and the ratting goes well for this series, make both sponsors and producers glad. a good example for a success manga into screen (even in beginning, many ppl doubt this series since its different from the manga, but i found its not THAT different. plus, the Taiwan version out first, which ppl said its more lot better since it just exactly like the manga)
and of course another successful drama based from manga is
Gokusen. i like the first season better than 2nd season in story line, but for casting, of course Gokusen 2 is better! :p great casting, a bit boring story line for season 2, its not makes the ratting low. i seriously surprise with season 2 ratting. they even beat the first season (i believe thats the main reason why they gonna made Gokusen 3).
even in Gokusen 1 the student main char is Shin (MatsuJun), but how the story goes with Yakumi and all is so good, not boring at all. to be so honest, i guess the main factor Gokusen 2 get a very high ratting not only cause its aired in Sunday 9 pm, but also good for 'eye treatment' a.k.a eye candy :p
i really hope that the season 3 won't drop or give a bad impression for Gokusen image. i mean.. in overall. i dunno what and how they gonna make for the story since it will aired in April this year. some old cast will back -Yakumi of course- and lot of new faces for the students. i dunno if this true or not, but i heard that Fujigaya Taisuke from Kiss My Ft II and Yaotome Hikaru from HSJ as one of them (surprisingly that Yabu not there). i can imagine Fujigaya as a bad boy, but Hikaru? ah, maybe thats why they won't cast Yabu here XD
even i love Jin so much, i will said that
Yukan Club is disappointing. the main story is interesting, the manga looks more interesting, but the dorama is... well, i keep watching it only cause Jin...
At first, im not sure how well or famous this Yukan Club manga, but when it will made into dorama, suddenly the manga came out in Indo! what an surprise, really XDD
moreover, the sponsors and producers might be disappointed with how the ratting goes. its not that bad. a normal ratting categories, but its not what they expected, specially when they cast Jin there. this is his first main role drama and since ppl -his fans actually- waiting for almost 2.5 years to see him on screen again, they should expected ratting more than 15% (plus hoping that the manga fans will watched it too).
i don't want to blame the crew or director or the casts, but somehow i felt mad cause they can do it better! i know they already working so hrd to make this drama, since they are in rush, must done it in super speed for 1 epi, but is that a good professional reason?
the story it self in each epi is.. well, since this is a light comedy-gakuen drama, its not that bad, even so unreasonable, but yet is boring...
the casts acting is good, and Minami is excellent. im not say this is the best Jin act, cause he still need lot of experience and learn how to act on camera, but he's improved (and the FANS POWER already proved their love to Jin for winning Best Actor in Grand Prix :p ). Junno and Yoko is good too since they playing a very different char form themselves (even we will see some real Yoko face in some scenes), thats why im not complaining if Junno really wins any award :D even the Grand Prix result is always make me laugh :p
Death Note! oh gosh, there is rumors that this series will be made into dorama with Pi as the main role *WTH*, but yet isn't come true till now. the movie, DN movie is.. EXCELLENT! i read the manga until finished cause the movies. even the 2nd movies def different with the manga, but its still great. the dialogs was so smart and both L and Light is a great chars. maybe this is the perfect example for a success manga into screen case. there is no ratting, but the ppl enthusiastic to go to theater and buy the DVD is great. i hear that Hollywood wants to make a remake for this movies (now the reason #3 and #4 goes)
Hana Yori Dango series... i've watched the Taiwan version first and its blah (the first season is fine, but MG 2 is big mistake...) and good thing that HYD with MatsuJun is good. good promo, good casting, good packaging, good crews provide good ratting too. even i don't quite like the 2nd season, but the ratting goes so well, beat the first season. MatsuJun is perfect for Domiyouji Tsukasa, and we all hate his hair style there :p to be honest, im not to remember this drama story (each epi), since i don't like it to much cause.. too drama :D
then
Chobits. i couldn't gather more info bout this series ratting and so on, but i've read the manga and i am a Clamp fan. im quite disappointed with the dramas. the main story is not so far from the manga, but how they made it into drama is too... well.. just an average drama for me. even i admit that the main cast is similar with Kame and Ohkura! :p and the girl whose become Chobits is the girl in 24 hrs TV 2006 in KT late night part (part 11 if u guys DL)
the last manga into screen i've watched is...
Tantei Gakuen Q. im not read the manga, but i've watched the anime and quite like it. the series isn't to much exact like the anime (or maybe manga), but surprisingly good! i never wondering that this kids made a good job for playing a young detectives (i want to say 'kid detectives', but they are teenagers in the series - even in the SP they all more younger). the ratting might not so well, even so they already made a good job. nice and interesting stories, good packaging. i watched the SP with
Detective Conan 2, and i must said that this film is more interesting than Conan.
for this season drama, there is
Honey and Clover which become an 'very expected drama', but come with very low ratting... i remember when this drama announce, im so excited. the manga is good (i've read even not finish), and of course cause Toma name was there. i want to know how he's gonna play this time since Takemoto char is such a looser (similar with Nakatsu). maybe he's fit for this kind of role :p
when the first epi airing and i saw the ratting, i believe its not only me who's shocked.. im not gonna believe why the first epi ratting is only 12.9% and keep dropping until now (in 9.8% for 3rd epi). but when i watched the first epi with my pal, i understand why the ratting so low... its BORING! really! even Toma couldn't make me stay seat and watch *sigh (and im not even finished the first epi)
i heard hat the crew and producers getting frustrated cause its way far from what they expected (i guess the cast also share the same feeling too). i feel bad for Toma. he's talented to be an actor, but well... seems like he need more chance. i know Toma's fans will never cares bout ratting since its Toma there ^^
and of course
Ichi Pound no Fukuin. when the first this drama announce with Kame as main actor, i'll search this in google and wiki (i believe many of Kame and KT fans will do the same). when i found it and read the story line i was like 0_o ('eh? another boxing story for kame?!), even i know the rumors spread before the official announcement that Kame will be in boxing drama... So apparently Kame got the boxer images with all this DB and now this drama (and the fact that he'll doing DB 2008 after this drama finish).
im not watching the drama yet, not even read the manga (i just know there is the ichipon manga after this drama announce :p), and if i feel sorry for Kame cause he's working so hard for this but get a very low ratting, then i should send a grieving flower to Taki. i don't mean harsh and i know hard working deserve to get a good result. this drama story line didn't hit me so much, not makes me want to watch but of course many of Kame fans, boxing lovers, too-usual-love-drama hater will watch it. i hear lot of disappointed why should Kame casted in this drama, but the fact i think its all Kame rules. i mean, without Kame, this drama will not gonna hit 10% for ratting (in Kanto), without underestimate the crews and producer. i've seen so many Kame caps for first 2 epi and he did it pretty well (looks like). many of ppl said Kame is a good actor and im not complain bout it (nor agree). he need more experience but yes he's in a right track to become great actor 1 day.
for all his poor ratting dramas, all he need just a REAL GOOD story line
i know maybe i missed lot of dorama or movie based on manga, at least thats all i remember...
i believe there will be another manga into screen again and i hope it will have a good story line, good casting, and good production. none other for getting high ratting, make fans, sponsors, and producers happy (even it might only 10% possible)
Ps. im curious with
Atsu Hime series. its taiga and get good ratting (the highest in first 2 weeks airing) and based from good novel
Ps. 2 wow.. such a long entry :p
